WHAT IS SHIATSU

Deeply restorative bodywork to support balance, ease, and resilience.

Shiatsu is a Japanese form of bodywork that uses gentle, sustained pressure, stretches, and mindful touch to support the body’s natural ability to regulate and heal. Rooted in East Asian medicine, Shiatsu works with the body’s energy pathways to encourage flow, release tension, and restore balance, physically, emotionally, and mentally.

At Core Clapton, Shiatsu sessions are slow, attentive, and client-led. Treatments are given fully clothed, usually on a futon or treatment table, and adapt to your individual needs on the day. Pressure can range from very gentle to firm, always guided by what feels supportive for your body.

Shiatsu can be helpful if you’re experiencing:

  • Persistent pain or tension
  • Stress, anxiety, or burnout
  • Fatigue or low energy
  • Sleep difficulties
  • Emotional overwhelm or feeling “out of sync”
  • Recovery from injury or illness

Many people come to Shiatsu not just to address symptoms, but to reconnect with their body, improve body awareness, and create space for rest in a busy or demanding life.

Whether you’re seeking relief from chronic discomfort or simply a grounded space to pause and reset, Shiatsu offers a holistic, non-invasive approach that meets you where you are.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS

Shiatsu offers supportive, whole-body care that responds to your unique patterns of tension, stress, and fatigue. Rather than treating isolated symptoms, sessions focus on how your body is functioning as a connected system.

Shiatsu may help to:

  • Reduce ongoing muscular tension and physical discomfort
  • Support people living with chronic pain or long-term conditions
  • Ease stress, anxiety, and nervous system overload
  • Improve sleep quality and restfulness
  • Support digestion, energy levels, and hormonal balance
  • Encourage body awareness and a sense of grounding

Many clients notice changes not only in how their body feels, but in how they relate to their body—feeling more at ease, more present, and better able to respond to daily demands.

Shiatsu can work well on its own or alongside other treatments and medical care. Sessions are always adapted to your capacity, comfort, and goals, making this a gentle yet effective option whether you’re seeking symptom relief, nervous system support, or simply time to rest and reset.

WHAT WE TREAT

Shiatsu is often sought out by people experiencing ongoing discomfort, stress, or a sense that their body needs support but not force. Sessions are always adapted to the individual, and people come for many different reasons.

Shiatsu may be helpful if you’re experiencing:

  • Chronic pain or persistent aches and tension
  • Neck, shoulder, and lower back discomfort
  • Stress, anxiety, or feeling overwhelmed
  • Fatigue, burnout, or low energy
  • Sleep difficulties or disrupted rest
  • Headaches or jaw tension
  • Digestive discomfort or bloating
  • Hormonal or menstrual-related discomfort
  • Emotional strain, grief, or periods of change
  • A general sense of imbalance or disconnection from your body

You don’t need a specific diagnosis to benefit from Shiatsu. Many people come simply because something doesn’t feel quite right, or because they want a gentler, more holistic approach to care.

Whether you’re navigating long-term symptoms or responding to the pressures of daily life, Shiatsu offers a supportive space to slow down, listen to your body, and begin restoring balance.

WHAT TO EXPECT

During a Shiatsu session, you’ll remain fully clothed and lie on a comfortable mat or couch while the practitioner uses gentle, sustained pressure, stretching, and mindful touch. Treatment is slow and responsive, guided by how your body feels on the day, with plenty of space to rest and settle. Sessions often feel deeply grounding and calming, supporting the nervous system and encouraging a sense of balance and ease.
